Trunk
A car trunk (or boot) is the primary storage compartment of a vehicle, designed to securely hold luggage, groceries, and emergency equipment. In most traditional front-engine cars, it is located at the rear, while many electric vehicles feature a "frunk" in the front. Its main purpose is to provide a weather-protected, lockable space that keeps cargo separate from the passenger cabin for both safety and organization. The design of a trunk varies significantly depending on the vehicle's body style. Sedans and coupes typically have a "closed" trunk with a separate lid, meaning the cargo is physically partitioned off from the seats. In contrast, hatchbacks and SUVs feature an "open" cargo area integrated with the cabin, accessed by a large liftgate. This integration often allows for greater flexibility, as rear seats can be folded down to expand the available storage volume. Beyond basic storage, modern trunks are equipped with several functional features to improve utility. Most include a hidden "well" for a spare tire and tools, alongside cargo nets, hooks, and lighting to help manage smaller items. High-end models often include advanced tech like power-operated lids that open with a foot gesture and interior emergency release handles, which are a standard safety requirement to prevent accidental entrapment
